FURTHER INFORMATION AND CURIOSITIES

What is Sardinian filigree?

Sardinian filigree is a traditional goldsmithing technique made with very fine metal threads that are woven and soldered by hand. The design creates solids, open spaces, and raised details that make the jewel look light while remaining rich in detail. In authentic Sardinian pieces, the pattern is real and three-dimensional, not simply engraved or stamped. See the guide (/filigrana-sarda).

How can you recognize authentic Sardinian filigree?

To recognize it, check these signs: woven threads, micro-granules, and a readable hallmark. Also look at the back and the soldering, which should be clean and consistent with the design, without a stamped effect. If you have doubts, compare close-up photos and the material description before buying. See the guide (/post/filigrana-sarda-autentica-come-riconoscerla-e-comprare-bene).

Which Sardinian jewels are the most representative of the tradition?

Among the most representative Sardinian jewels are the fede sarda, the Bottone Sardo, Su Coccu, filigree earrings, and pendants. Each one carries symbolic and artisanal value, but the fede sarda remains the most iconic model of the tradition. If you want to explore the best-known symbols, see the guide (/post/quali-sono-i-gioielli-più-rappresentativi-della-tradizione-sarda).

What is the difference between a fede sarda, a fedina sarda, and a Sardinian ring?

The fedina sarda is thinner and more discreet, ideal for someone looking for a light ring to wear every day. The fede sarda has a more symbolic and recognizable pattern, while “Sardinian ring” is the broader category, including models with different shapes and widths. To better understand the differences in styles and uses, see the guide (/post/filigrana-sarda-domande-risposte).

What is the meaning of the fede sarda?

The fede sarda symbolizes union, continuity, and protection. Its tiny spheres also recall abundance and fertility in tradition, which is why it is chosen both as a couple’s ring and as an identity jewel to wear every day. See the guide (/filigrana-sarda).

What are the differences between Campidanese, Nuorese, and Gallurese fede sarda rings?

The Campidanese style tends to be thinner and more airy. The Nuorese style is usually fuller and richer in relief, while the Gallurese style has a more continuous and flowing filigree. If you are unsure between the models, compare style, width, and visual presence. See the guide (/post/fede-sarda-campidanese-nuorese-gallurese-differenze).

Why are many Sardinian jewels made of 800 silver?

Many Sardinian jewels are made of 800 silver because this alloy is historically linked to Sardinian goldsmithing tradition and supports raised details, granules, and interwoven work very well. In filigree, the result is solid, harmonious, and suitable for everyday wear. To learn more about materials and differences, see the guide (/post/argento-800-vs-argento-925-la-guida-completa-chiara-pratica-e-davvero-utile).

800 silver or 925 silver, which is better for a Sardinian jewel?

If you want consistency with traditional filigree craftsmanship, 800 silver is often the most suitable choice. 925 silver has a higher silver content, but it is not automatically better for every jewel, because what also matters is how the alloy supports details, relief, and daily wear. See the guide (/post/argento-800-vs-argento-925-la-guida-completa-chiara-pratica-e-davvero-utile).

How do I choose the right size for a fede sarda or fedina sarda online?

The safest method is to measure the inner diameter of a ring that already fits you well and compare it with the size chart. As an alternative, you can use a strip of paper or a measuring tape to measure your finger circumference, preferably at two different times of the day. If you are between two sizes, the more comfortable one is usually the better choice. See the guide (/come-sapere-la-taglia-anelli-sardi).

How do you clean and care for a Sardinian filigree jewel without damaging it?

To clean a Sardinian filigree jewel, use a soft cloth and, if needed, lukewarm water with a small amount of neutral soap. Avoid abrasive products, toothpaste, aggressive cleaning baths, and hard rubbing, because they can dull the details and put stress on the soldering. Always keep these points in mind: soft cloth, neutral soap, immediate drying. See the guide (/post/come-pulire-e-mantenere-i-gioielli-sardi-in-argento-800-senza-rovinarli).

Which Sardinian jewel can you give as a gift without making a mistake, and with what budget?

If you do not know the size, a pendant or a pair of earrings is often the easiest choice. In general, rings and fedine start from around €29, earrings from €32, pendants from €30, and bracelets from €46. Prices are indicative, so always check the product page. See the guide (/post/gioielli-sardi-in-filigrana-guida-completa-per-scegliere-il-modello-giusto-online).

Which chain should you choose for a Sardinian filigree pendant?

The right chain depends on three things, the size of the pendant, its visual weight, and the desired length. A small pendant looks better with a thin chain, while a more substantial pendant needs more balance and support. If you want to avoid proportion mistakes, see the guide (/post/come-scegliere-la-catenina-giusta-per-un-ciondolo-sardo-in-filigrana-senza-sbagliare-misura-stile-e).

What is the meaning of the Bottone Sardo, Su Coccu, and the Chiama Angeli?

The Bottone Sardo is one of the most recognizable symbols of Sardinian tradition and is linked to identity, good fortune, and protection. Su Coccu is an amulet with strong protective value, often associated with protection against the evil eye, while the Chiama Angeli is especially chosen as a gift for pregnancy, birth, or times of change. See the guide (/post/gioielli-sardi-portafortuna-su-coccu-bottone-sardo-e-chiama-angeli).

Can Sardinian jewels be personalized?

Yes, in many cases it is possible to personalize a Sardinian jewel starting from an existing model. Personalization can involve the finish, the stone, the size, and, when the structure allows it, also a transformation of the model itself. Feasibility should always be checked before placing the order. Contact us for customizations or see the guide (/post/ci-sono-servizi-di-personalizzazione-per-gioielli-sardi).

Where can you buy authentic Sardinian jewels online without making mistakes?

To buy authentic Sardinian jewels online, it is best to make sure they are real filigree and not just a surface effect. Check these signs: woven threads, micro-granules, and a readable hallmark. A size guide, return policies, and support before and after the purchase are also useful. See the guide (/post/dove-posso-acquistare-gioielli-sardi-autentici-online).
